Death of cat on Balkans

Death of cat on Balkans

Death of cat on Balkans

About

The work consists of a series of photographs in which a large, plush cat is placed in the waiting room of a health institution. Part of the work includes the documentation of the performative act, where I unannouncedly broke into public health institutions in order to realize this work. The initial inspiration came from personal fear of the ubiquitous paradigms of lethargy and the helpless status of the individual to bring about change. This work is also a kind of experiment with art media, where a fictional scenario from one drawing, accompanied by a surreal story about the tragic death of a cat, is moved to a real environment. The performance raised the passive message of drawing into active interaction with the audience and its engagement, which brought this work to a new dimension. The work resulted in the aesthetics of surreal space from the film frame, where the dystopian image of the waiting room was shattered by the presence of a fictitious toy of human size. The passive state is disturbed by the witty deviation of the naive plush toy, which looks like a mistake and illogicality that does not belong to these lethargic images.
