This is where the magic happens - my natural habitat. I create in all shapes and forms of mediums, from painting, drawing, installation, sculpture to digital art forms such as animation, documentary video, processing, and generative art.
These are my favorite mediums. Especially drawing. Full stop. Everything else comes after. All mediums, all formats. Ink, pencil, water colour, pastels, colours, collages, no limits. I only rarely use acrylic on canvas and prefer oil because it looks as natural as possible and doesn’t have the plastic feel of acrylic colours. Many artists can’t stand the long drying time of oils, but I find it an advantage. I like that it teaches you to be more deliberate with each piece and to devote more attention to analysing before creating.
There’s an old printing press from the 1960s in the studio, where I work with a variety of traditional printmaking techniques: intaglio etching, linocut, and woodcut. My favorite is intaglio, a chemical process in which acid etches the drawing into a copper plate. It’s one of the oldest forms of printmaking, dating back to the 15th century, and I’m drawn to its precision, depth, and historical weight. You can learn more about the process from this post.
I sometimes sculpt, mostly working with clay as my primary medium. For now, I focus on small-format pieces, which allows me to explore form and texture on an intimate scale. I do casting in plaster to preserve the details and experiment with surface finishes. It’s a process that offers a tactile break from my digital work and connects me more directly with material and gesture.
Mixed media
Sometimes, the studio becomes a space for digital experimentation: interactive objects, projection mapping, 3d mapping, animations, processing + plotter prints and more. I’m currently expanding my setup with professional-grade equipment, recently bought a high-lumen projector for mapping, and working on setting up a dedicated area for high-quality digitization and shooting - a mini photo studio with reflectors and other tools.
Assistants
These are my little helpers, though more often, they’re adorable troublemakers: Žuća and Lejdi (Yellowish & Lady). Žuća loves to watch me work and always stays close while I create, he’s becoming more affectionate as he gets older (witnessed here and here), while Lejdi prefers to make a mess and somehow always finds an art supply to steal and chew on 🐶 🐾
